Jhoanna has been instrumental to me in gaining a new perspective about health and in life. She has the gift to speak life to situations and challenges, and call out mindsets that need to be renewed.

During the lockdown, I consulted with Jhoanna about a recurring cough that would’t go away. Her prescription was avoid to milk and sweets, eat real food, drink lots of water, sleep early, manage stress and do something with your physical environment. Since air pollution outside my condo was the issue, she also gave me a 10-day anti-allergy medicine. But more than the prescription and medicines she personally delivered to me, it was the “other packages” that brought, LIFE, LOVE and JOY – freshly baked bread, freshly ground coffee beans and my brand of muscovado sugar.

Remember my mung bean sprouts last week? I sproute Remember my mung bean sprouts last week? I sprouted 1.5 cups because I keep forgetting ang dami pala nun when soaked and sprouted! So I cooked only a third of it for lunch today.

With added carrots, brocolli, cauli, squash and alugbati, leftover local white corn plus curry spices from scratch, glad to have eaten with the fam a simple, affordable and nutrient dense meal today.  Served it with freshly popped papadams.

We rarely deep-fry but for lunch today, we did because we wanted to find out if teens would even notice it's not real chicken 😉

Guess what? The 11-spices worked!

We're currently designing a nutrition program for children and teens and this will probably make it to our suggested recipes. Finding ways to make it gluten free.

WHERE'S THE TOFU? I'll be doing another 21-day el WHERE'S THE TOFU?

I'll be doing another 21-day elimination diet soon and today, I'm challenging myself if I'd react to my food intolerance sa tofu, seeds beans.

Why challenge myself? 

By challenging my intolerances, I'm.able to identify my true food allergies vs intolerances. I'm learning to be more mindful by listening to how my body reacts to food, stressors, etc. It's another way of healing one's self.

My health goal is not weightloss but to achieve optimum health and one of the fundamentals I've learned in functional medicine is the importance of diversifying our diet - kulay your plate!

At 12:30  noon, I realized I should cook something quick (remember, lahat kami WFH). I checked our ref and pulled out whatever's there. Sauted local onions, ginger, garlic, fermented beans, mushrooms, bell peppers, french beans and sesame seeds with coldpressed EVCO. Served it with biodynamically-grown red rice.

So hungry, our silken tofu is still cooking.

Quick steamed/ stir fried with a little EVCO and water left-over biodynamic brown rice with whatever organic vegetables left in our ref (white onions, yellow capsicum, cherry tomatoes, kale) and fresh shitake mushrooms.

Diversity is key to a nutrient-dense meal.
